Migraine, headache, and the risk of stroke in women: a prospective study. (Neurology. 2005) "CONCLUSIONS: In these prospective data, migraine was not associated with total, ischemic, or hemorrhagic stroke. In subgroup analyses, we found increased risks of total and ischemic stroke for migraineurs with aura. The absolute risk increase was, however, low, with 3.8 additional cases per year per 10,000 women."
Risk of ischaemic stroke in people with migraine: systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies. (BMJ. 2005) "CONCLUSIONS: Data from observational studies suggest that migraine may be a risk factor in developing stroke. More studies are needed to explore the mechanism of this potential association. In addition, the risk of migraine among users of oral contraceptives must be further investigated."
Closure of a patent foramen ovale: effective therapy of migraine and occipital stroke. (Int J Neurosci. 2005) "Whether stroke in a patient with migraine and patent foramen ovale (PFO) is due to PFO or migraine is difficult to decide. Ä This case shows that in a patient with PFO and migraine with aura, stroke may be attributable to migraine rather than to PFO. Occlusion of the PFO may reduce the frequency and intensity of migraine attacks."
Cardiovascular risk factors and migraine: the GEM population-based study. (Neurology. 2005) "CONCLUSIONS: Migraineurs, particularly with aura, have a higher cardiovascular risk profile than individuals without migraine.
